Future Trips

There have been many changes in our 2011 Sister Cities Exchange travel plans since the devastating Earthquake, Tsunami and Power Plant events of March 11 in Japan.

On June 27, 2011 Mendocino will be sending a group of four Artists for the 4th Annual Sister Cities Art Exchange Show. The first show will be held at the Matsumoto City Museum of Art from May 24 to May 29 as the MCMA Official Program and then the show moves to The Omachi Asagura (Art Gallery) from June 23 thru July 17.
16 Artists from the Mendocino area have been chosen to participate in the show and four of those artists will travel to Japan. The first four artists listed below are the artists who will travel to Miasa-Omachi for the Art Exchange Show Artists Reception on July 2.

Also, on the same flight as the artists, the Mendocino K8 Student Group will leave Mendocino for two weeks. This year we are doing our tour in reverse from previous years. After one night in Tokyo we head directly to Miasa-Omachi for a six night stay with our Homestay hosts. We leave our friends the morning of July 5 for nine days of visiting different cities in Japan that include Takayama, Kyoto, Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

The two 6th and 7th grade students still participating from the original 22 Mendocino K-8 School students chosen and are now attending monthly workshops to prepare for their once in a lifetime experience.

Along with us this year is retiring K8 School Principal, Bronwyn Rhoades will join us as Sister School Representative along with three adult chaperons chosen to accompany the students.
The students are: Jin Jackson and Madelyn Crowningshield.
All together, including the students, chaperons, artists and the MSCA trip leaders we will have a group of 13 Mendonesians flying to Japan on June 27, 2011.
We may be the smallest group ever but this years exchange looks to be an exhilerating adventure for everyone involved.
When the flight departs for the US, MSCA President Mike L. Evans will head back to Miasa-Omachi for an 11 month visit of cultural interaction, learning and teaching. Mike will return in May, 2012 with the Student group from Miasa-Omachi.
The members of the 2011 group are:
Co-Leaders - Marci Van Sicklen and Mike L. Evans
Guide - Travis Rzeplinski
Chaperons - Debbie Crowningshield, Jim Jackson and Dan Dickson
Sister School Representative - Bronwyn Rhoades
